Find All Kinds Of Unique Wind Chimes
Wind chimes, also known as Aeolian chimes, are hollow tubes that are either made
of solid metal or wood. You would often see wind chimes hanging from outside a
building or home. Wind chimes are known for making beautiful sounds whenever the
wind hits the chimes and the hollow tubes strike against each other when they
hit against a metal, wooden or rubber ball in the center of the chimes.
The sounds that wind chimes produce are inharmonic instead of harmonic. However,
if you hang wind chimes at about a fifth of their length, the sounds become more
harmonic. Wind chimes that are high quality are usually hung in such a way that
the ball in the middle strikes in the center along the length of the chimes. The
thickness, length, width and material of the chimes determine the frequency of
the sounds they make. Wind chime makers follow a formula for determining how
long each tube should be in order to produce specific notes.
In many parts of Asia, wind chimes are believed to bring good luck. In fact,
wind chimes figure prominently in Feng Shui. In Japan, wind chimes are very
popular, especially during the summer months. Japanese homes would hang wind
chimes by their windows during the hot, humid months and the sounds produced
bring cooling relief.
