    This album shows that even if you put out garbage, someone will buy it.

    @JayMalone ….Good Vibes single or SS version, Heroes (same), Cabinessence (what you call the bootleg or if it had a louder mix, the 20 / 20 album version) , Surf’s up (but the mix for the 1971 album of the same name) , Wonderful from SS, Vegetables from same and Wind Chimes from same.The WHOLE of Smiley Smile though is a great album but my favourite is still Pet Sounds as it has the best songs all in all not scrappy bits like what was meant for that unfinished project

    @JayMalone What are you TALKING about ? ; you keep misinterpreting me.I’m a huge Beach Boys fan ; one of my top 5 bands ever. Only talk about HATE and LOATHE . I’VE heared ALL you’re talking about so how have i ‘missed out’ on anything.It’s YOU who does’nt seem to have read or understood my comments.For the record i love the following….

  • JayMalone:

    @kenfig
    okay man. don’t listen to it. HATE IT. LOATHE IT. i really couldn’t care less. you’re the one who is missing out on some of the best music ever created.

  • kenfig:

    @JayMalone Fuck the bootlegs.In 67 Brian wasnt happy with them so he scrapped the project.Who cares if much later he said this or released a crap album in 2004, there IS NO original ‘Smile’ album cos it never came out.Brian was getting fucked up during making it but was in control of his emotions to complete and release Pet Sounds ; that’s why he was satisfied with it.All the people imagining this mythical ‘Smile’ album saying it was like this or that and what they want it to be like is crap

  • JayMalone:

    @kenfig
    the bootlegged SMiLE has all 17 tracks that were intended for the album. 15 of those were completed and approved for release by Brian Wilson.

  • JayMalone:

    @kenfig
    OHHHH. i see your problem now. you don’t know why the SMiLE album was shelved. it wasn’t because Brian wasn’t satisfied with it.
    it was shelved because? “well Mike didn’t like it.”
    that’s a QUOTE from Brian Wilson himself.
    other issues were, the other guys didn’t really understand or particularly like it either. except for Dennis.
    Capital was putting too much pressure on Brian to deliver before he was ready.

  • kenfig:

    Brian never made any real conclusive or definitive decision on full content or running order because he was never fully satisfied with the production of the material at the time.So, however people like all the different versions available, there is NO Smile album of 67 ; it doesnt EXIST

  • kenfig:

    @JayMalone You dont HAVE to say anything again but you still miss my point.No one is discounting anything but Brian didnt like what YOU consider ‘finished’ ENOUGH to release it.Just cos you and others are satisfied with bootlegs n stuff it doesnt mean HE was and it was he who decided.Mike Love had no final say in it and anyway Love liked a lot of it but resented Van Dyke Parks and others that he saw as a bad influence on Brian the person more than the artist

  • kenfig:

    Brian Wilson thought ‘Smile’ project was’nt good enough and thats the main reason for it being scrapped.That was part of his emerging mental illness ; if Brian had ever been totally satisfied with it’s progress it would have been released in 67 but his striving for unrealistic and unobtainable ‘perfection’ was obsessive ; it couldnt happen for Brian – his judgement was cloudy and muddled

  • JayMalone:

    @kenfig
    like i said before, if you would listen to the bootleg SMiLE, you would realize that all of the songs but 1 or 2 were completed.
    so what, we should just completely discount some of the best songs ever recorded because capital records and mike love didn’t like it?

  • JayMalone:

    @molepup
    weirdness doesn’t rely upon drug use.
    drugs take the mind to places it’s never been before. psychedelic drugs, in particular, open the gateway to the dream and subconscious portions of your mind. this is why so much artistic brilliance has been created with the aid of psychedelics.
    The smiley smile album marks the absolute pinnacle of the Beach Boys’ drug use. What i can’t understand is how the members thought that SMiLE was too avant garde, and “far out” but then they release THIS.

  • kenfig:

    @JayMalone i dont give a shit about bootlegs or stereo fuckin’ sound ; what’s that got to do with the points that i’ve made on here ?

  • JayMalone:

    @kenfig
    because the bootlegged version of the album is available in immaculate stereo sound, it is 93% complete, and that 93% is more than enough to warrant the title of best album of all time.
    you obviously haven’t heard it….

  • limitedwhole:

    Sounds like it exists to me.

  • kenfig:

    @ssur55 They ARE complete.Many people on here are not making sense.Either that or they’re not expressing themselves clearly enough ; there IS NO Smile album, only the 2004 work but people keep refering to Smile as the tracks from 66 / 67 which were not considered finished or good enough themselves for release by Brian Wilson.So to the artist THEY were the ‘incomplete’ versions.There was no conclusive track running order for the abandoned album either

  • xxxhentaikingxxx:

    Whoa…I feel sleepy…zzzzz

  • ssur55:

    I think If Smile had been released in 1967 as originally conceived, some of the “Smiley Smile” tracks would have been included on the CD release as bonus tracks. Not putting down “Smiley Smile”, and these are great tracks nonetheless, put they seem incomplete compared to the versions on the Smile album.

  • 1obxeclipsedriver:

    @marcofalzone You’re certainly welcome to.

  • kenfig:

    Why does everyone go on about SMILE ? It doesnt EXIST as a Beach Boys album as it was not released or finished to a sick and troubled creator’s unsatisfiable satisfaction

  • marcofalzone:

    @morrismesmo Ha!…u mean “my cheek”??

  • marcofalzone:

    @1obxeclipsedriver I disagree wholeheartedly

  • kenfig:

    @RetroAndrew Im saying Retro that SMILE wasnt finished anyway in 67 at least to Brians conclusive satisfaction so as an official release of that time it doesnt exist defininitively.In MY opinion though this was what some people consider an inferior replacement, AS an official release featuring lots of Brians great work of the time and with lots of it produced by him, i think its a great album from which the fact of which its a bit scrappy in places,doesnt detract

  • RetroAndrew:

    @kenfig
    “better than SMILE? ”
    so your saying this album is better than Smile when Smiley Smile was rushed and quickly recorded before the release date? This is not better than Smile because this was rushed and sounds uncommercial. The Smile version of Wind Chimes is better than this version because Smile’s version was the original. The whole reason this album Smiley Smile was out was because of Mike Love! Not even The Beach Boys like Smiley Smile but they like the original Smile album.

    @idaslpdhr Dont agree with you about some of your comment as i think it is still a great record with many super moments.It has the best Vegetables,With Me Tonight, a superb Wonderful again which ive not heared a better version of and the two classic singles,one of which is the best version (H & Vs).If they had included the version of Surfs Up they constructed for S.U. album and Cabinessence, S.S. would be even better than it is and better than SMILE
